The dreaded cabin smell when you fire up the AC can knock you on your ass. It is pretty disgusting. My F30 was a 2013 and the cabin air filter hadn’t been replaced in 5 years. It was definitely time..

This is the cabin air filter you want for the f30:

The install job is quite simple, here are the tools we will need:

Underneath your glove compartment you will see two 10mm bolts, go ahead and remove those.

Pull down on the plastic piece that you removed those two 10mm bolts from. There will also be a footwell light connection you will need to disconnect as well as the 12v connection.

You will see two T20 torx bolts holding the air filter in underneath the glove compartment. Remove those and then unclip the two tabs holding the filter in place, this will reveal the actual filter.

You can pull the air filter out from there, now compare the two…Mine was really nasty!

You will notice an arrow on the top of the filter. This should be pointing towards the front of the car when you reinstall the filter.

Reinstall your filter and put everything back together. Don’t forget to reconnect your footwell light and 12v.

You should notice a difference over the next few days in the air and its quality. Sometimes you will notice it immediately, sometimes it takes a while for the car to remove itself of old stenches from the last filter.
